IADT Bachelor of Business [Hons] Business Management students recently teamed up with Bohemians FC for a real‑world research project exploring how community, climate justice and sustainability are reshaping Irish football.

Bohemians FC, a values‑driven and 100% member‑owned club, has undergone a remarkable transformation since coming close to bankruptcy in 2008. Over the past decade, “the people’s club” has evolved from an inner‑city football organisation into a global voice for justice, sustainability and diversity, guided by its mission to use football as a force for good.

As part of the collaboration, IADT students carried out primary research to understand the hopes, concerns and motivations of the club’s diverse stakeholder community. Their findings were presented on campus to Bohemians’ to help support future communications and strategic planning as the club continues its journey of change.

Following the student presentations, Seán McCabe (Bohemians FC Head of Climate Justice & Sustainability) and Aibhínn Conway (Bohemians FC Head of Community) shared insightful reflections on Bohemians’ ongoing transformation, from financial crisis to stability, from monoculture to a global and culturally diverse fan base, and from periods of relegation to meaningful success on the pitch and beyond.

The packed audience included life‑long Bohemians supporters, who joined staff, students and lecturers in celebrating the quality and ambition of the work presented. The students’ research and professionalism were widely praised, demonstrating the impact of applied learning and real‑world collaboration.

Special thanks to lecturers Suzanne Carthy and Rob McCullagh for leading this inspiring project and supporting students throughout. Well done to everyone involved, Up the Bohs!
